Introductory Period
1-3 Lessons - Payment due at the time of each lesson.
This is a chance for us to get to know each other. As the student, I want you to communicate any goals you might have, your preferences in music, any concerns or issues you have about studying voice, and any musical work you have had in the past (prior lessons, choirs, other instrumental training). As the teacher, I will get to know your individual voice, discuss particular technical goals and issues, introduce a program of technical exercises and warm-ups, and work with you to design a repertoire and practice schedule to meet your goals. This introductory period is also an opportunity for both of us to see if our personalities and goals are a good match.
Weekly Lessons
Studying voice is a long-term project that requires time and commitment from both the teacher and student. Lessons are generally scheduled weekly and tuition is determined on a quarterly cycle. Students are billed a monthly amount based on the number of lessons in that quarter.
I require a minimum of 24-hours notice for ALL lesson cancellations or reschedules. If this minimum is met, I will make every possible effort to make-up the lesson either later that same week or during another week that will be convenient for both of us. If the lesson is cancelled with LESS than 24-hours notice it will NOT be made-up. Cancellations and reschedules can be made either by phone or by email. If you do not reach me in person, I will follow-up with a call or email to confirm that I received your cancellation message.
Because the voice reflects our physical state, it is particularly vulnerable to colds and the flu. A severe cold can not only limit vocal production, but can also cause damage if the singer tries to force or push the voice into producing anyway. PLEASE listen to your body! If you have a sore throat, a very bad cough, or laryngitis please cancel your lesson. However, if 24-hour notice is not given, even if for illness, the lesson will NOT be made-up. I realize that this can be difficult to gauge at times. If you are not quite sure whether to cancel and are approaching the 24-hour minimum notice, contact me and we can discuss it. Sometimes, if a cold is just in the sinuses you can "sing over it". Either way, please communicate with me about it and we can find a solution together. I am happy to find another day that week or reschedule completely IF given 24-hour notice.
Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions or concerns.
